Debut Novel

A Letter from Sloan

Dear Future Reader,

Before I get started, I should warn you – opening up really isn’t my thing, but here goes. Dr. Google might tell you that this is avoidance attachment. I would say it’s plain old common sense.

My name is Sloan, and I’m 31. I run a successful business, one I created on my own. I left a fancy house (my parents were loaded) with $30 in my pocket when I was 16 to live with my aunt and cousin. I worked after school and on weekends, and was happier in that middle-class house than in that mansion. I watched my mother put up with abuse (she called it love).

I swore at 9 that I’d never fall in love and so far I’ve kept that promise. As soon as a guy uses the L-word, I’m out. The only long-term relationship in my life is with my standard poodle, Jet.

My business has been humming along just fine. I just met this mysterious investor, and I’ve told him to get lost. Now strange things are starting to happen in the business, and people want more than I’m willing to give. I’m not sure I like where this is going.

My story will be ready for the world in late 2026. I think we’re going to understand each other. If you’d like to be the first to know when it’s ready, sign up below.

About the Author, Julia Wooster

Hi, I’m Julia Wooster. I recently retired my hypnosis business to spend more time with my husband and dogs, Jack and Skye. Jack’s a mini poodle, and Skye is a standard. Sloan’s dog, Jet, is modelled after my first standard poodle. Sloan’s story has been kicking around in my head for years, and I’ve decided it’s time to get it out to the world, and I’m having fun doing it. I hope you enjoy Sloan’s story as much as I’m enjoying writing it.
